The air flow in the air compressor flows from inside to outside, and the pollutants are captured by filter material and condensed into large droplets, which eventually get to the lower end of the filter and discharged by gravity.
The filter element inner surface is used as pre-filter to remove large particles of pollutants, while the small inner hole is used to remove aerosols and solid particles. The larger holes on the outside can allow air to pass freely and minimize the pressure drop.
The space between the filter element outer diameter and the housing inner diameter must be properly sized to reduce the air velocity and the possibility of oil and water entrainment.
